Endless Loop System

ST-2000 series

The ST 2000 series endless loop systems are ideal for cinemas, museums and special events, where fully automatic film projection is required without the necessity of rethreading the film before each performance.

  • Minimum wear and tear on the film
  • Fully automatic operation
  • Suitable for all projector types
  • Film capacity: 16500 ft. max. (5000 m) (about 3 hours of 435 @ 24 fps)
  • Electronically regulated film deck drive
  • Handles any film stock
  • Simple operation
  • Trustworthy and reliable

Operating Principles:

Film is fed from the middle of the deck to the projector and, after running through the projector, is wound again onto the outside of the same deck. By interlocking the deck with the endless loop system's feed and take up sprockets , the speed of the incoming and outgoing film is always the same. The rotational speed of the two sprockets and the deck is determined by the speed of the projector and is regulated electronically. The film is transported from the endless loop system to the projector and from the projector back to the endless loop system with minimal tension. Due to the electronic coupling of the endless loop system with the projector, the start and stop behavior of different projector types will not cause any problem. Each film layer has the same circumference due to its layout in the form of a clover-leaf. As soon as the outside circumference has reached a preset size, the film layers are gently pushed towards the center at intervals by means of six sliding bars and six strips. The sliding pins, which after the film loading procedure are stationary, and the strips will hold the film in its shape, preventing the film layers from shifting or rubbing against one another during operation; preventing scratching. The loose winding of the film layers produced by the toothed strips further avoids cinching the roll and possibly scratching the film. In normal use there will be no film damage.

During the development of the endless loop system great importance was placed on high reliability and the ability to run problem prints. Splices, cue foils and dirt will not affect its smooth operation. The endless loop system includes an overtension switch which, if the film tension is too high, automatically switches off both the endless loop system and the projector. The endless loop system can likewise be switched off by the film break switch on the projector.

The endless loop system can be operated separately or in combination with a ST 200E platter. In this case the top deck will be the endless loop system. Field upgrade of recently manufactured Kinoton platters to endless loop operation is possible.

Operation:

The programs can be assembled and separated easily and quickly without any additional attachments. The second deck of the platter is usually used for assembling and for feeding the film onto the endless loop deck during the first performance. Subsequent insertion or removal of supporting programs, advertising and trailers is possible. Make-up can be done directly on the endless loop system at 2 times projection speed by putting the endless loop system in self-wind. In this case the film is fed directly from the make-up table, from a rewind system or from the reel shaft on the projector, reel by reel. Break-down from the endless loop deck is made in reverse order. Additional adjustments or special set-ups before or during the operation of the show are not necessary. Any desired number of performances can be shown without rethreading and fully automatic operating is possible with an automation system.

The endless loop system can be ordered with an anti-static cleaning device in order to eliminate dirt and static charge on the film.
