Kinoton nominated for another Academy Award®

On October 21, 2003, Kinoton America President Larry Shaw, aided by Vice-President Chapin Cutler and West Coast Operations and Studio Sales head Clyde McKinney made a presentation before the Scientific and Technical Awards Committee of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The venue was The Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Beverly Hills, CA. The presentation, a speech accompanied by live and recorded visuals, described in depth the design elements and groundbreaking technology of Kinoton's FP-30/38EC/II High Speed Dubbing Projector, and its success within the industry. The contributions of designers Gerald Wilke, Wolfgang Maier, Thomas Wild, Norbert Wahner and Joseph Lehmaier were described. In addition to the formal evening presentation a question and answer session was held. The Committee's decision on whether to award the prestigious Scientific and Engineering Oscar®, a bronze statue, to Kinoton as part of the 76th Annual Academy Awards® will be announced in January 2004. Kinoton has been honored to receive the Scientific and Engineering Oscar® before, for the invention of the Platter film handling system, now standard in nearly every cinema. The Scientific and Engineering Oscar® is a more prestigious award than the more-often-awarded Technical Achievement certificate.
